mrshl — Product Release Notes
A running history of what has shipped, newest first.
v1.27
25 October 2026LatestMeet the new RaceDesk orb: short, event-aware answers and reviewable actions for setup, staffing and race day, alongside tighter security across key organiser and volunteer tools.
The new RaceDesk orb
- Open RaceDesk from the floating orb in your organiser workspace. A compact command panel keeps your selected event in view without taking over the screen.
- Start with Check my setup, Find staffing gaps or Race-day snapshot, or type a question or task in your own words.
- Replies stay concise, with event readiness and recent change history available inside the panel.
From a question to a reviewed action
- Check missing setup, review course-point and zone instructions, and ask RaceDesk to propose supported updates to contacts, parking details, arrival instructions and shift defaults.
- Find open shifts, review suitable volunteers and propose assignments after capacity and schedule checks. Create shifts at existing course points when the required details are available.
- Get a race-day snapshot of recorded check-ins, in-position confirmations and stand-downs, or propose an assignment-status update for someone you identify.
- See the exact proposed changes before choosing Confirm changes or Cancel. Nothing is applied just because you asked a question.
- Previews are checked again when confirmed, with clear results showing what was applied. RaceDesk directs you to the event controls for tasks outside its supported actions.
Tightened security and privacy
- Tightened security around organiser workspaces, volunteer records and team access.
- Strengthened access checks for private volunteer dashboards, marshal briefs and RaceDesk change previews.
- Refined private file handling for course-route and discount-code imports, alongside tighter input and export checks.
v1.26
24 October 2026Private volunteer dashboards, a more compact Race Desk, better course-map setup, and clearer event, communications and billing tools, plus an expanded administration cockpit.
A private space for volunteers
- Volunteers can request a private dashboard link by email and see their upcoming sign-ups grouped by organisation, without creating an organiser account.
- Open an event to view its shifts and assignment details. Organisations and events load in pages, with refresh and load-more controls.
- The volunteer dashboard builder supports an organisation introduction, reordered content and perk widgets, and completed-shift badge criteria. Preview the layout before saving it.
CrewMate becomes Race Desk
- The organiser assistant now opens from a compact Race Desk tab into a chat-first drawer, leaving more room for your event workspace.
- Clear sender labels, compact replies and a visible thinking indicator make conversations easier to follow. Longer answers can be expanded when you need the detail.
- Event readiness checks and the assistant's change history remain accessible inside the drawer.
Course maps with or without a route
- Switch between the standard 2D course map and an optional 3D terrain view for route planning.
- Set a race village or default map location in Event settings by clicking the map, choosing a saved point or entering coordinates.
- When there is no GPX route, the course map uses your saved default location, or fits your existing course points if no default is set.
- Operational zones support custom picture icons, alongside refinements to course-map pins and zone colour updates.
More control over shifts and reporting instructions
- Reorder zone groups in the Shifts tab by dragging them into your preferred planning order.
- Set arrival windows on individual course points so reporting instructions can reflect each position's requirements.
- Give a volunteer their own release condition on an assignment without changing the shared shift or the instructions for everyone else. Leave it blank to inherit the shift's release instructions.
- Flexible-pool filtering and allocation checks have been refined to distinguish available volunteers from those already assigned in the event.
Event country and organiser timezone
- Save an organiser timezone in account settings so event dates, shift displays and race-day timing use the same reference when team members work from different regions.
- Choose the event's country separately from its phone dialling code. A blank emergency-services number now uses the supported country's default instead of always assuming a UK event.
- An organiser-entered emergency number still overrides the country default; unsupported countries need a manually verified number.
Archive events without losing their records
- Move finished events into Archived events to keep your active event list focused, then restore them whenever needed.
- Archiving preserves course points, volunteers, shifts, briefs and reports rather than deleting the event setup.
- Destructive delete and removal actions have clearer confirmation prompts, and event selection has been made more reliable when moving around the workspace.
Clearer communications and race-day exports
- One-off email broadcasts follow three clearly labelled steps: choose recipients, write the message, then review and confirm sending. Automated emails remain separate.
- Discount-code tools now sit in a dedicated Post-event rewards section in the event's Email tab.
- Download a branded staffing-plan PDF from Race Day, covering all event shifts regardless of the zone currently selected on screen.
- Roster and shift-card summaries are more compact, with supporting details available when needed.
Send product ideas privately
- Submit a feature request from the organiser workspace and return to see your submissions. Each request is visible only to its submitter and administrators.
- Administrators can review submitted requests together in the operations cockpit.
Clearer billing records
- Organiser billing summaries bring event charges, email usage costs, recorded payments and outstanding balances together for the selected account.
- Administrators can review client billing summaries and record payments manually, with expanded lifetime and monthly charge totals.
- Account selection for organiser billing summaries has been corrected. These are billing records, not automatic card collection; Stripe payments have not been activated.
An expanded administration cockpit
- The administration area now groups overview metrics, accounts, billing and email, platform activity and feature requests into clearer operational sections.
- Expanded platform and monthly billing summaries make it easier to review client activity, charges and balances without working through individual event lists.
- Demo events and sample volunteers are excluded from standard real-event counts and reporting. Admin event counting has also been corrected for larger event lists.
Guidance and loading recovery
- The first-event guide now includes clearer step-by-step navigation and visual setup demonstrations.
- Page-loading recovery can reload a failed page and offers a manual retry when needed, instead of leaving the workspace on an unexplained loading failure.
v1.25
14 October 2026Major releaseMajor race-day update: see exactly where you are in the day's shift coverage with a live Now line, and get to the important controls faster with streamlined mobile Race Day and check-in screens.
A timeline that follows the race-day clock
- A clearly labelled Now line runs through the shift timeline, showing the current time alongside your staffing coverage and in-position counts.
- The line refreshes every 15 seconds while the view is open. It appears only when today is selected and the current time is inside the displayed timeline range; other dates stay clear for planning and review.
- Today, shift times, axis labels and the live marker all use your organiser-configured timezone, even when you open the event from a phone in another region.
- Multi-day selection, overnight shifts, zone filtering and clicking a shift bar to jump to its live-board point remain available.
Less scrolling on race day
- On mobile, the Race Day tab puts the event name, check-in shortcut, staffing export, zone filter and timeline ahead of the planning clutter.
- Event tools, setup progress and insights sit behind a closed-by-default Event tools & setup panel. Race Day help moves below the operational board on mobile.
- Both the Race Day tab and dedicated check-in screen use a smaller mobile header, with workspace switching, event switching, invitations and account settings tucked into a Menu.
- The mobile check-in search header stays below the app header as you scroll, and its back link returns straight to Race Day Live.
Compact mobile event navigation
- Event sections now fit into one horizontally scrollable tab strip on phones instead of a tall grouped menu. Every existing section remains accessible, including by keyboard.
- The selected tab is brought into view when you switch sections. Desktop navigation and layouts are unchanged.
- Existing check-ins, assignment-status controls, live presence and staffing exports keep their existing behaviour.
v1.24
14 October 2026Less clutter in Settings: clearly grouped controls, quick section navigation and concise guidance, plus a new race-director message in the back-office top bar.
Event settings made easier
- Event settings are grouped into collapsible sections: Event & branding, Safety & contacts, Sign-up form, Roles & point types, New point defaults and Copy & export.
- Jump to a section opens it and takes you straight to its controls, with short descriptions explaining what each group changes.
- The Save settings bar stays within reach while scrolling and saves changes across all event-setting sections together. Closing a section does not discard your edits.
- Existing settings, validation, date changes, duplication and CSV exports keep their existing behaviour.
A tidier account Settings page
- New event defaults, Team access, Billing & help and Delete account now sit in clearly labelled collapsible sections with quick navigation.
- Guidance explains the difference between account settings and individual event settings. Existing save and confirmation controls remain in place.
Designed by race directors
- The signed-in back-office top bar now carries the message: mrshl was designed by race directors for race directors.
v1.23
13 October 2026A clearer, more flexible workspace: persistent navigation, a smaller collapsible desktop sidebar, and light-blue help panels you can open when needed.
Keep your place in the workspace
- Signed-in organisers keep the desktop side menu when opening Settings, Billing, Help, Quick start, Updates and the First event guide.
- On phones and smaller screens, the bottom navigation and main menu remain available on these pages so you can return to Events without using the browser's back button.
- Page loading now happens inside the workspace, keeping navigation available while the next screen loads.
- Help and Updates still print without the workspace navigation, keeping your printed guides clean.
A sidebar that fits your workspace
- Desktop side-menu labels use slightly smaller text for a more compact layout.
- Collapse the sidebar to an icon-only menu to give event planning more room, then expand it whenever you want.
- Navigation and logout remain available when collapsed, with hover labels to identify each icon. Your collapsed or expanded preference is remembered on this browser.
Help when you need it
- Event-tab guidance now uses a prominent light-blue panel with a help icon and clear Show help / Hide help controls.
- Help starts closed by default, keeping the event workspace focused while leaving the guidance one click away.
- The demo event's Why it's set up this way notes use the same collapsible design, with their explanations unchanged.
v1.22
7 October 2026Less repetitive setup and more confidence before saving: reviewable event copies, bulk shift creation and volunteer allocation, a saved-progress setup checklist, and clearer CSV and sheet imports with field matching and duplicate warnings.
A clearer path through event setup
- New five-step checklist at the top of each event covers races, course points, shifts, the sign-up preview and your saved brief layout.
- Progress follows your saved setup rather than manual ticks, with a Next button taking you straight to the next unfinished task.
- Opening the sign-up preview as an authorised organiser records that step; copied events start with their own preview still to do. Core setup complete is not a race-day readiness assessment.
Copy an event with confidence
- Review the setup being copied and its new race and shift dates before creating the event.
- Choose which volunteers to bring across, or copy the setup without volunteers. Branding, zones, points, shifts, forms and brief designs carry across.
- Assignments, check-ins, volunteer consent, form responses, brief history and email automations/history are not copied, and copying does not send volunteer emails.
Create shifts in bulk
- Select several course points and set shared shift details instead of creating the same shift one point at a time.
- Review the proposed shifts before saving, then see the creation results.
Allocate flexible volunteers together
- Review proposed shift allocations for several flexible volunteers before confirming them from the roster.
- Capacity and existing event assignments are checked again before saving. Results show who was assigned, who was skipped and why an allocation could not be confirmed.
Volunteer imports you can review
- Volunteer CSV imports and roster sheet-pastes now have a column-matching step: review sample values, change suggested field matches and ignore columns you do not need.
- Preview the mapped records before importing, correct names, phones and emails, and inspect the other mapped details. Larger previews are split into pages of 50 rows.
- Possible duplicates are flagged by matching names, emails or phone numbers in the event workspace's volunteer pool, as well as repeated details within the source. Warnings never automatically merge or skip a duplicate row.
- Invalid rows are clearly identified before saving. CSV rows still need a name and phone; sheet-paste retains its existing missing-phone behaviour. The completion summary reports imported and skipped rows.
- For pasted rosters, each row shows its selected shift and flags names that do not match anyone currently assigned there. Existing shift-name matches are also highlighted; importing still creates a new volunteer and, when selected, a confirmed assignment.
- Missing or ambiguous point/role matches are left unassigned for you to review rather than silently choosing the first shift. You can select the intended shift or import the person into the pool only.
First-event field guide
- A shareable, mobile-friendly first-event guide walks organisers through setup with visual demonstrations and a final readiness checklist.
v1.21
1 October 2026Race Day Live turns the personalised marshal brief into a connection with Event Control: one-tap arrival and stand-down, live presence on the board and timeline, offline tap syncing, and organiser-controlled release.
Your brief is now live
- Marshals tap “I'm in position” on their personalised brief when they reach their actual course position, then “Stood down” when they leave — no extra login or app download.
- Arrival and departure times are recorded per assignment, with a running time-on-position display and a final total after stand-down.
- Organiser check-in stays distinct from confirmed arrival at a course position, so being on site is not mistaken for being deployed.
- Volunteers with several shifts have separate live controls for each brief; printed briefs and PDFs keep their existing layout.
A clearer view from Event Control
- The Race Day board shows who is expected, checked in, in position or stood down, with expandable arrival, departure and duration details.
- Shift timeline entries now include in-position and stood-down counts alongside staffing coverage.
- Active shifts with no confirmed arrival are highlighted and linked to their point on the board. Missing confirmation may mean poor signal rather than an empty position.
Built for patchy signal
- Arrival and stand-down taps are saved on the device and submitted in order when the connection returns, preserving the original tap times.
- Pending taps and the last live sync time are visible, so marshals know when Event Control may still be waiting for an update.
- If the brief cannot be loaded because of a connection or server problem, a copy opened on the same device within the last 48 hours can be shown, clearly labelled with its last-loaded time. This is a cached brief fallback, not a guarantee that maps or every page work offline.
Release estimates, not automatic permission
- Back-marker, sweeper and last-runner release conditions can show a countdown calculated from the linked races' start times, paces, distances and laps. These are estimates, not live runner tracking.
- An overdue estimate tells marshals to wait for Event Control; a countdown never grants permission to leave.
- An authorised organiser can release a marshal who is in position from their Race Day board details. The brief shows that authorisation, and the marshal still confirms departure with “Stood down”.
v1.20
1 October 2026A new race-day shift timeline and chronological live board, plus clearer multi-shift WhatsApp messages, saved event messaging, clickable brief links, editable emergency numbers and automatic date changes when reusing an event.
Race-day shift timeline
- New read-only timeline above the Race Day board: one row per course point, grouped by zone, with shift bars on a shared time axis.
- Switch days for multi-day events, including overnight shifts; release-condition shifts use their estimated finish time.
- Red, amber and green bars show empty, partly filled and full shifts, labelled with filled / needed and remaining open places. Waitlisted volunteers and no-shows do not count as staffed.
- Click a shift bar to jump to its point on the live board. On phones, scroll the timeline horizontally to see the full day.
Chronological Race Day board
- Shifts within each course point now appear in full start-date and time order, so earlier days and earlier shifts come first.
- Your manually arranged Shifts tab and volunteer sign-up ordering are unchanged.
Multi-shift WhatsApp messages
- Each volunteer appears once in the WhatsApp broadcast list, with their event shifts combined into one personalised message in start-time order.
- Each shift has its own point, role, times and separately labelled brief link, making moves between positions clear.
- Audience filters choose volunteers; their other active event shifts are included in the same message too.
- WhatsApp group links are included without repeating the same link for several shifts. You still review and send the message yourself in WhatsApp.
Saved WhatsApp wording
- Save your custom WhatsApp broadcast message per event and return to it without retyping it.
- Personalisation is retained, with a new {shift_briefs} token for a block containing each shift's point, role, times and separate brief link.
Brief links & emergency numbers
- Web addresses in point instructions, zone briefings and race-specific instructions now appear as clickable links on the online brief.
- Downloaded brief PDFs retain clickable links rather than displaying them only as part of an image.
- Set the life-threatening emergency services number in Event settings — for example 999, 000 or 911 — and it appears on the event's volunteer briefs. Blank values still default to 999.
Reusing events on a new date
- Choose the new date when duplicating an event; copied shift dates and race starts move automatically to match.
- Changing an existing event's date also moves its shift dates and race starts, preserving clock times and overnight day offsets.
v1.19
22 September 2026More control over briefs and course setup, safer day-to-day editing, stronger volunteer records, and a cleaner mobile event workspace.
Brief pictures
- Upload up to three pictures to an event's volunteer brief — route close-ups, access instructions, race village visuals or anything else your team needs.
- Add an optional caption to each picture and preview the result before saving.
- The new Event pictures panel can be dragged into any position in the brief layout, hidden when not needed, and is included in printed and downloaded briefs.
Course planning
- GPX routes that repeat the same loop twice are now detected automatically and marked as two-lap routes on the course map.
- Course point pins now use their operational zone colour, making large multi-zone events easier to read at a glance.
- Course guidance now highlights that CrewMate can duplicate points to speed up repetitive route setup.
Shifts & volunteers
- Manage the volunteers on each shift directly from the Shifts tab, including moving someone to another shift without returning to the full roster.
- Shift start and end values now require a complete date and time, preventing incomplete times from silently reaching the brief.
- Volunteer sign-up date and time now appears consistently in the event list, volunteer pool and admin view.
- T-shirt size is now genuinely optional, with no size selected automatically.
- Sample volunteers are kept inside the demo event and never appear in a real event's volunteer list.
Safer, faster editing
- A global Undo control now keeps the most recent reversible action available across the organiser workspace, with a clear progress state while it is restored.
- Event tabs now wrap into tidy rows on phones instead of extending beyond the edge of the screen.
- New events explicitly load the roles and dialling code saved for the active account, including when working inside a teammate's workspace.
Email automation
- Add up to two extra automated reminder emails per event, each with its own days-to-go timing, subject and message.
- Choose to receive an organiser copy of automated volunteer emails so you can see what was sent as it goes out.
- Assignment emails now cover volunteers allocated after signing up as flexible or happy to help anywhere.
v1.18
17 September 2026A dedicated mobile check-in screen for race morning, and full control over the wording your automated emails start from on every new event.
Mobile check-in
- New mobile-optimised check-in view for the Race Day tab — a simple search-first list of confirmed volunteers with one big Check in button each.
- Search by name, phone number or point to find someone in seconds, even in a big field.
- Updates the same roster and race-day board instantly, so it's safe to run check-in from several phones at once.
Default email wording
- Save your own subject and body for any automated email as your workspace default straight from the Email tab.
- Every new event now starts from your saved wording instead of the built-in text.
- Reset any email back to your saved default in one click if you've changed it for a specific event.
v1.17
10 September 2026Email exactly the volunteers you choose, fit multiple contacts neatly onto your briefs, and stop re-entering the same roles and dialling code for every new event.
Email individual volunteers
- Choose “Specific volunteers” in Email broadcast, search by name, email or assignment, and tick one person or several — without emailing everyone registered.
- Preview the personalised message for each selected recipient, with their shift details and brief link when included in your message, then review the recipient list before sending.
- Useful after assigning a “happy to help anywhere” volunteer: send their shift information manually when you're ready.
- Manual emails now appear in the send log with sent or failed status. Shared email addresses receive one email per send.
Brief contact numbers
- Long contact text now wraps inside the “Who to call” boxes instead of overflowing, including in printed and downloaded briefs.
- Emergency contacts can be entered on separate lines when creating or editing an event — add a name and number per line, and those line breaks are preserved on the brief.
Defaults for new events
- New “New event defaults” panel in Settings: save your standard roles and phone dialling code once for the currently selected workspace.
- New events automatically inherit those saved values, and you can still customise them in each event's settings.
- Changing defaults only affects future events — existing events keep their current settings.
v1.16
5 September 2026Reward your volunteers properly: upload your own discount codes from any registration platform and every volunteer gets their own unique code by email.
Discount code pool
- Export a single column of codes from your registration platform — any platform — and upload it per event as a CSV or Excel file.
- Blank and duplicate codes are dropped automatically, and uploading again tops the pool up rather than replacing it.
- Allocate at random in one tap: every volunteer gets their own unique code, and anyone already holding one keeps it.
- If you haven't uploaded enough codes, allocation is blocked and tells you exactly how many more you need.
- Live count of codes in the pool, how many are allocated, how many are still free, and how many volunteers need covering.
Getting them out
- Switch “Use my uploaded codes” on and the post-event thank-you email carries each volunteer's own code instead of one shared one.
- Switch it off and the single shared code works exactly as before, individuals only.
- The inbox preview shows the code line as volunteers will see it before anything sends.
Email previews
- Every email preview — broadcasts and all four automated emails — now shows working links and a desktop / phone view toggle.
v1.15
5 September 2026Email is now built in. Your volunteers get looked after automatically from sign-up to thank-you, you can broadcast to any group in seconds, and every send is counted so you always know what it costs.
Automated volunteer emails
- Four automatic emails per event: thanks for signing up, a confirmation prompt four weeks out, everything-for-the-day ten days out, and a thank-you the day after.
- Each one is personalised with their position, shift times, arrival window, where to report, parking, road closure notice and their own brief link.
- Sent from your event's branding — your logo and accent colour at the top of every email.
- Edit the wording, change the timings, switch any stage off, or send one now, all from the new Email tab.
- Send yourself a test copy before a single volunteer gets it.
- The post-event thank-you can carry a free-entry code, given to individual volunteers only rather than run clubs.
Broadcasts & templates
- Email any group of volunteers — filter by point, role, status or an answer on your sign-up form — with an inbox preview before you send.
- Save your own templates and reuse them on every event, with ready-made shift confirmation and race day update wording to start from.
Knowing who got what
- Send history grid showing every volunteer with an email address and which emails have reached them, with the reason next to anything that failed.
- New email usage panel per event: sends this month, all-time total, a breakdown by email type and the recent batches.
- Billing page now shows your emails this month and the running cost at £0.01 each, ready for card payments being switched on.
Comms tidied up
- The Comms tab is now split into WhatsApp and Email, so race-day messaging and volunteer emails don't get in each other's way.
v1.14
4 September 2026Bring your team into your account, fix a volunteer's details in seconds, and a far deeper Insights dashboard that tells you where your staffing is actually going wrong.
Your team, your account
- Invite a colleague into your account and they get full access to your events, volunteers and briefs — no more sharing one login.
- New account switcher in the top bar for anyone working across more than one organiser's account, so you always know whose race you're looking at.
- Leave an account you've been added to at any time, and owners can remove someone's access in one tap.
Fixing volunteer details
- Edit any volunteer straight from your pool — correct a typo in a name, phone number or email without deleting and re-adding them.
- Changes carry through to the roster, their brief and your CSV exports immediately.
Insights that tell you what to do
- Staffing by zone, weakest first, with the zone most in need of recruitment called out above the chart.
- Critical point watch: aid stations, medical points and junctions with nobody assigned, each linking straight to the event.
- Race-day countdown showing the sign-ups per day you now need, and whether your current pace gets you there in time.
- Sign-up trend now projects forward at your current pace against your total slots and your race date.
- Sign-up velocity, fully staffed shifts, and returning-volunteer rate against your own account average.
- Experience mix per shift, flagging any critical shift staffed entirely by first-timers.
- Group dependency, warning you when one run club supplies more than a third of your crew.
- Contactable crew and brief-generation tiles, including how many briefs are now out of date after a shift or point change.
- New panel comparing this event's fill rate, returning volunteers and sign-up pace with your average across every event you run.
v1.13
25 August 2026The second round of client feedback: a sign-up form you can trim down, briefs you can tweak point by point, WhatsApp links that actually open, and a one-tap way back to your race.
Sign-up form
- Switch off the default questions you don't need — dietary and medical notes, emergency contact name, emergency contact phone and prior experience each have their own toggle in Event settings.
- Anything switched off disappears from the public form and stops being asked for, while still being available when you add or import people yourself.
- Position names now sit as a clear heading above their shifts, so every shift at Bib & Medal Collection reads as one block instead of repeating the position on every row.
Briefs
- Edit a single position's brief without touching the rest — pick any point in the brief editor and the preview swaps to that point's brief.
- Hide panels on just that brief, such as dropping the timing panel from a race-hub position, while every other brief keeps your event layout.
- The WhatsApp group link on a brief now opens in a new tab, so volunteers don't lose the brief they were reading.
Volunteers & comms
- Remove someone from an event straight from its Volunteers list, with a confirmation and one-tap undo — their record stays in your volunteer pool.
- Fixed Send message failing to open WhatsApp: UK-style numbers starting with 0 are now converted to full international format, with a country code you can set per event.
- A short note on the comms panel makes it clear the button opens your own WhatsApp with the message ready to send.
Getting around
- The event you're working on now shows as a button in the top bar, so you can jump back to it from the volunteer pool or insights in one tap.
v1.12
25 August 2026Straight from a client running a multi-zone event: sign-ups grouped by zone, your own word for “volunteer”, bulk zone tidying, and free race entry for run clubs.
Sign-up form
- Shifts are now grouped under collapsible zone headings on the public sign-up form, each showing how many positions are still open — a hundred-point course finally reads cleanly on a phone.
- Open shifts sort to the top of every zone, so nobody scrolls past a full one to find a free spot.
- New Preview button on each position: a mini map and the organiser's description, so regulars can recognise their usual spot before choosing it.
- Zone-only sign-ups — mark a shift as “volunteers pick the zone only” and it appears as “Event Village — any role”, with you assigning the exact role later from the roster.
- The Run Club section can now be switched off per event for organisers who don't work with clubs.
Call them what you call them
- New setting for what your event calls its people — Marshal, Crew, Helper, anything you like.
- Your word replaces “Volunteer” on the public sign-up form, the waiver wording and around the event.
- Leave it blank and everything reads “Volunteer” exactly as before.
Course tidying
- Bulk zone assignment in Tidy up mode — select any number of points and drop them all into a zone in one go, or clear their zone entirely.
- Sits alongside the existing bulk position-type change, so a fresh import can be sorted in two clicks.
Run club rewards
- New Run club free entry panel on the Comms tab — add your race entry link and a discount code once.
- One WhatsApp button per club volunteer opens a personalised thank-you offering them free entry, with their club name filled in.
- mrshl ticks off who you've already offered it to as you work down the list.
v1.11
24 August 2026CrewMate AI now keeps a permanent record of everything it changes, so any job it does can be undone in one tap — and it can build your sign-up form and brief layout for you.
Undo anything CrewMate does
- New “What CrewMate changed” list in the CrewMate panel — every job it has ever done for you, newest first, with how many records it touched and when.
- One tap undoes a whole job: shifts it created are removed, values it changed go back to what they were, and anything it deleted comes back.
- Small fixes it applies on its own are logged too, so nothing it does is invisible.
- Undone jobs stay in the list, marked as undone, so you can see the full history of what happened to your event.
- Your readiness score re-checks itself the moment a job is undone.
It can now build your sign-up form
- Ask CrewMate to build or tidy your volunteer sign-up form and it proposes the questions in plain English first.
- On your approval it writes the questions straight onto your form — labels, question types and which ones are compulsory — keeping your previous version in the history.
- It never deletes a form, and form changes always wait for your Approve, even a single question.
It can now set up your briefs
- CrewMate reads your brief layout and event branding, then proposes the panel order, which panels to hide, header and accent colours, contact number size and lanyard fields.
- On approval it applies the layout for you instead of talking you through the editor.
Clearer before you approve
- Bulk jobs now show a tally of what will change by type — “6 shifts created, 2 points updated” — alongside the detailed review list.
- After every job it tells you it can be undone, and offers the next most useful thing to do.
v1.10
24 August 2026Everything from Matt's first run at a real event: shifts in the order you want them, a sign-up form you control, editable briefs, and no more accidentally deleting people.
Shift ordering
- Drag shifts into whatever order you like on the Shifts tab — that exact order is what volunteers see on the sign-up form.
- Shifts you haven't ordered by hand now fall back to genuine chronological order by start time, rather than the order they happened to be created in.
Registration form
- Email address can now be made compulsory with a single toggle in Event settings.
- First name and last name are captured as separate questions, and flow through the roster, volunteer pool and CSV export as separate columns.
- Filters on the volunteer pool and the zone filter can now be cleared in one tap instead of being set back option by option.
Briefs & lanyards
- Contact number size is now adjustable on the brief — drop it slightly so long mobile numbers stay on one line instead of wrapping.
- Radio channel is hidden by default and switched on per event, since most volunteers never get a radio.
- Location, parking and what3words links now open in a new tab, so volunteers don't lose the brief or the form they were filling in.
- Choose exactly which fields appear on the lanyard card — switch off anything your event doesn't need.
Volunteer management
- Delete a volunteer from your pool, with a clear confirmation showing what goes with them.
- Removing someone from a shift now takes a deliberate second tap, and sits well clear of the brief buttons.
- Undo on both: remove or delete someone by mistake and one tap puts them, and their assignments, straight back.
Shift times
- Fixed shift times silently failing to save — start and end times now store reliably every time.
- New shifts default to your race day rather than today's date, with a Set to race day shortcut on any shift.
- Briefs no longer show a “?” in place of a time that didn't save.
v1.9
22 August 2026A mobile overhaul. mrshl now behaves like a proper phone app on race morning — instant status changes, easier taps, and a much faster first load.
Instant status changes
- Checking someone in, or marking a no-show, now updates on screen the moment you tap it instead of waiting on the network.
- If something fails to save, that one row quietly reverts and tells you why, right there on the row — no pop-ups covering the board.
Built for thumbs
- Status pickers on the roster now slide up from the bottom of the screen on phones, with big easy options, rather than a fiddly dropdown.
- Every small button on the roster, race-day board and point form now has a larger invisible tap area, so taps register first time in gloves or rain.
- Desktop looks and behaves exactly as before.
Faster to load
- Each page is now loaded only when you open it, so mrshl starts up noticeably quicker on mobile data.
v1.8
21 August 2026CrewMate AI — an operations assistant built into the platform. It reads your event, tells you what's missing, and does the setup work for you when you ask.
CrewMate AI
- New CrewMate AI panel, one click away on every organiser screen — ask it anything about your event, or hand it a job to do.
- Five ready-made jobs to start from: audit my event setup, create the missing shifts, sort out my zones, fill my empty shifts, research my event.
- It knows which page you're on, so you rarely have to explain which event you mean.
It does the work, not just the talking
- Creates and updates races, course points, zones, shifts and assignments directly in your event.
- Always states exactly what it's about to change before making a bulk change, and never deletes anything unless you ask.
- Prefers the right fix — shared logistics onto the zone, defaults onto the event — rather than retyping the same detail onto every point.
- Every step it takes is shown live as it works, and you can open any step to see precisely what it did.
Knows your race
- Searches the web for your event — route, terrain, field size, road closures, past editions — and turns that into staffing advice.
- Flags the gaps that matter most first: unstaffed points, under-headcount shifts, unzoned points, races with no pace data, missing emergency contact or waiver.
- Locked to your own account: it only ever sees the events and volunteers belonging to you.
v1.7
21 August 2026Zones are now the place you write your briefing and logistics once — every point in the zone inherits it, and every brief updates the moment you change it.
Zone briefing & logistics
- Each zone now holds its own briefing copy, reporting and meet location, briefing location, arrival window, walk-out instructions, vehicle restrictions and parking detail.
- Write it once for On Route or the Event Village instead of retyping the same paragraph onto forty course points.
- Zone briefing prints on every brief in the zone, under the position's own instructions.
- Arrival window, where to report, where to be briefed and how to get out to your position now have their own block on the brief.
Inherited, not copied
- Points show the value volunteers will actually see, marked Inherited from the zone — nothing is duplicated onto the point.
- Change a zone and every brief beneath it changes with it, including the brief version marshals are looking at.
- One click to override a single field on a single point where something is genuinely different, and one click to hand it back to the zone.
- Parking links still fall back to your event default when neither the point nor the zone has one.
Sign-up form
- T-shirt size is no longer a fixed question on every sign-up form — it's now a one-click question you add in the form builder.
- Events that don't hand out shirts stop asking for a size, and those that do get the sizes back with the rest of their custom answers.
v1.6
21 August 2026Run clubs can now sign up as a group and be rostered as one, and building your sign-up form finally looks like the form itself.
Run club sign-ups
- Volunteers signing up can name their run club — either starting a new one or joining a club already registered for your event.
- Whoever signs up first can add their club mates inline, so a group of six arrives as one submission rather than six.
- Club chips show next to every name on the roster, the event volunteer list and your volunteer pool.
- Search your pool by club name to pull up the whole club at once, and club names are included in the CSV export.
Assign a whole club
- New Assign a run club action on every shift — pick a club and drop its available members straight into the open slots.
- mrshl tells you how many people went in and how many slots are still open afterwards.
- Members already rostered elsewhere are left out, so nobody is double-booked.
Visual form builder
- The form builder now shows each question as it will look to volunteers, rather than as a row of settings.
- Simple toggles per question: switch it on or off, and mark it required or optional.
- Questions switched off stay on the form for later instead of having to be deleted and rebuilt.
v1.5
20 August 2026Two big ones for larger events: a waitlist so a full shift never turns anyone away, and operational zones to keep a hundred-point course navigable.
Shift waitlist
- Full shifts now show as “Full — join waitlist” on your public sign-up form instead of disappearing.
- When a spot frees up — someone dropped out or was marked a no-show — a Spot open alert appears at the top of your roster with the queue for that shift.
- The queue is ordered for you: volunteers happy to take any shift first, anyone who has already turned a spot down last, then by when they joined.
- Offer spot moves that person into the shift and opens WhatsApp with “A position has become available — yes or no?” ready to send.
- Every offer is saved to your message history, and a “no thanks” moves them to the back of the queue rather than off it.
- Waitlisted people never count towards your fill figures, so coverage and reports stay honest.
Faster navigation
- New Switch event menu at the top of any event — jump straight to another of your events without going back to the dashboard.
- The menu shows each event's date and colour, marks the one you're in, and has an All events shortcut.
- The top menu now reads Volunteer pool (all events), making it clear those people are shared across your whole account, not just one event.
Comms quick actions
- Two new buttons at the top of the Comms tab: Event summary and Group broadcast.
- Event summary writes a ready-to-send rundown of the event — date, location, points staffed, still-open shifts — for your organising team.
- Group broadcast drafts one message for a WhatsApp group rather than person by person.
- Both are fully editable before you send, and every copy is logged to your message history.
Shifts & course tidying
- Edit a shift in place — change the role, times, headcount or release condition without deleting and recreating it, so assignments stay attached.
- New Tidy up mode on the course points list: select several points at once and re-classify their position type in one go.
- Bulk delete with a clear warning of the shifts and assignments that go with each point.
Volunteer roles & imports
- Volunteers now carry preferred-role tags — Event Village, Registration, Timing, whatever you use — suggested from your event's own role list.
- Tags show when you assign someone or pull from your pool, so the right person lands in the right position.
- CSV import reads split first/last name columns and comma-separated role tags.
Operational zones
- Group your course points into zones — On Route, Event Village, Start / Finish, or whatever your event calls them.
- Create, rename, colour and reorder zones from the Course tab; each point picks its zone when you edit it.
- Zone chips filter the map, points list, shifts, roster and race-day board together, and your choice carries between tabs.
- Shifts and the race-day board are grouped under zone headings, so on the morning you can work one zone at a time.
v1.4
19 August 2026For everyone still running their race off a spreadsheet: work in a grid if you prefer one, and bring your existing sheet across in a single paste.
Spreadsheet view of the roster
- New Cards / Spreadsheet toggle on the Roster tab — every rostered volunteer in one editable grid.
- Edit names, phone numbers and emails inline; arrow keys, Enter and Tab move between cells the way they do in a sheet.
- Point, role and shift times sit alongside each row, with status, brief link and removal still one click away.
Paste from your sheet
- Copy a block of rows out of Google Sheets or Excel and paste them straight into the roster.
- Name, phone, email, point and role columns are read automatically, and a header row is ignored.
- Each row is matched to the right shift, with a preview table so you can correct anything before it is created.
- Volunteers and their assignments are created together in one pass.
Website
- New comparison section explaining how mrshl replaces the volunteer spreadsheet, job by job.
v1.3
19 August 2026A visual view of how your staffing is going, faster group-link setup, and a way to check the lanyard card before you print a stack of them.
Insights dashboard
- New Insights page in the top menu — a visual read on every event you're running.
- Fill gauges show how close each event is to being fully staffed at a glance.
- Status breakdown of your volunteers, from applied through to checked in and completed.
- Sign-up trend chart, so you can see whether recruitment is speeding up or stalling.
- Vacancy chart highlighting the course points still short of people.
WhatsApp group links
- Apply one WhatsApp group link to the whole event and every course point in a single click.
- Individual points can still be given their own group afterwards.
Briefs
- Preview the lanyard card straight from the brief template editor, alongside the full A4 brief preview.
- Lanyard cards resized and re-spaced to standard badge-holder proportions, with safe edges so nothing is hidden by the holder lip.
- Long names and position names now scale down automatically instead of being cut off.
- Every card carries a location QR code in a fixed position — what3words where you have it, otherwise the map pin.
v1.2
17 August 2026Race-morning polish: everything that cuts down phone calls on the day, plus the tools that turn a one-off volunteer into a returning one. Bulk course importing, lanyard cards, parking detail on every brief, and a volunteer pool that carries across every event you run.
Bulk course importing
- Import points from a Google My Maps link — every pin on your planning map is pulled straight in, with pin labels like “marshal” or “aid station” classified into position types automatically.
- Import from a CSV of names and coordinates, from a GPX/KML waypoint file, or from a pasted list of what3words addresses.
- Preview table before anything is created, so you can correct names and position types in one pass.
- Your event defaults (parking link, shift times, headcount) are applied to every point as it is created.
Parking, access & road closures
- Each course point now carries parking information — where to park, what permit to display, when the car park closes.
- Separate walking directions from the car park to the position itself, for points you can't drive to.
- Upload your road closure / traffic management notice once per event and it is linked from every marshal brief.
- All of it prints onto the brief, so marshals arrive without ringing you first.
Lanyard cards
- New compact credit-card-sized brief format, designed to live in a lanyard wallet in the rain rather than on an A4 sheet.
- Shows name, position, role, shift times or release condition, and the emergency and radio details.
- Toggle between the full brief and the lanyard card on any single brief.
- Batch mode tiles several cards per page with cut lines — print, slice and hand out at volunteer check-in.
Volunteer pool
- New “My volunteers” page: everyone who has ever volunteered with you, across every event you run.
- “Add from pool” on any event, so returning volunteers don't have to sign up from scratch each season.
- Shows which events each person has done and flags your returning volunteers.
- Export your whole pool to CSV.
- Each organiser's pool is private to their own account.
Shifts & recruitment
- Release conditions as an alternative to a hard end time — “stay until the cycle back marker passes you” — shown on the brief alongside an estimated finish.
- Event defaults: set a standard shift start/end, headcount and parking link once, and every new point is created with a shift ready to fill.
- Volunteer perks (free t-shirt, hot food, free entry next year) listed at the top of your public sign-up form.
- One volunteer can hold several shifts across the day, with a warning if two clash.
- Custom logo upload per event, carried through sign-up pages and briefs.
- Races can be marked as having no GPX (swims, triathlon legs, laps of a field) and deleted cleanly.
Communications
- Post-race thank-you composer — a personal WhatsApp message to everyone who turned out, including their position and hours.
- mrshl ticks off who you have already messaged as you work through the list.
Guide
- Organiser quick guide rewritten and expanded to thirteen detailed steps covering all of the above.
